Minnie Wade Memorial Scholarship

The Alabama Chapter of the 99s manages the Minnie Wade Memorial Scholarship. The Minnie Wade Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1500 for Flight Training. The Minnie Wade Memorial Scholarship is open to any female residing in Alabama. In addition to the information required on the application form, the applicant must hold a current medical and have a minimum of ten hours of instruction. A listing of instructors and a letter of recommendation from the current instructor is required. Selection priority will be to Alabama Chapter members, female family members of Alabama Chapter members, and then other females residing in Alabama with a minimum of a student pilot license. All females with a student pilot’s certificate can sign up as a Ninety-Nine at www.ninety-nines.org.

SE Section New Horizons Memorial Scholarship

The SE Section New Horizons Scholarship honors the Ninety-Nines who have passed to new horizons, and at the same time, inspires the scholarship recipients as they achieve new milestones and move to new horizons in their flying achievements. The SE Section Ninety-Nines members memorialize our friends, our colleagues, our mentors, and our sister pilots. Each aviatrix has contributed to promoting aviation and inspiring others in her own unique manner.

The application for the New Horizons Memorial Scholarship is due April 1st. To apply for the New Horizons Scholarship, download the New Horizon Scholarship Application and follow the directions on the application.


99 International First Wings Awards

The First Wings Awards are managed by the International 99s Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Trust. The First Wings Award are semiannual award of up to $6,000 based on the completion of specific training milestones. They are available only to Student Pilot Members of The 99s who meet eligibility requirements. To be eligible, applicants must hold a student pilot certificate (or provide evidence that they meet their country’s flight training requirement), have been an official Student Pilot Member of The Ninety-Nines for at least three months prior to the application deadline, have logged five hours in the six months prior to the application deadline, and show financial need.

  • The Spring First Wings Award Application deadline is April 1. Must have joined the 99s no later than January 1st of that year.
  • The Fall First Wings Award Application deadline is October 1. Must have joined the 99s no later than October 1st of that year.

99 International Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships

Each year 99s International Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships are awarded to qualified members for five different scholarship types, including two specialized scholarships: an Emergency Maneuver Training Scholarship and an International Scholarship for pilots in developing countries. In addition, the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund (AEMSF) provides Research Scholarship Grants and, for Student Pilot members, the First Wings Awards. 99s members and other individuals have donated to the Fund through their estate bequests, individual gifts, and the Perpetual Scholarship program. Since 1941, the AEMSF has awarded over 800 scholarships plus more than 300 awards to student pilots working toward their first certificate. The amount awarded for these scholarships, including Research Scholar Grants and Fly Now/First Wings Awards, exceeds $12 Million. The AEMSF’s investment account is currently valued at over $6 Million.
